The Corporate Communications and Social Media Intern will be responsible for assisting in day-to-day operations, copy and content creation and execution of Yorktown Systems Group’s (YSG) social media and internal corporate communications. This position will be responsible for planning, creating, scheduling, and posting content for various social media projects and campaigns and will work closely with the YSG People Operations team. This position is a part-time, hourly, nonexempt position and will report directly to the People Operations/Communications Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work with People Operations team to promote Company’s brand, services, and presence in the Government Contracting industry as well as the community.
- Create engaging copy and content for all major social media platforms to increase Company’s brand awareness.
- Brainstorm/offer ideas for social media projects/opportunities.
- Schedule content to be published on social media at ideal times.
- Assist with monitoring the social media channels and activities.
- Assist with managing the Company’s social media content calendar.
- Assist with writing and creating engaging corporate communications content, to include employee communications, newsletters, press releases, and calls to action.
- Assist with writing and creating engaging content for company’s nonprofit organization, Foundation 1781.
- Assist with curating social media content for events, stand-alone campaigns, and other projects.
- Assist with Yorktown and Foundation 1781 social events or weekend fundraisers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Acquired Skills:
- As a result of working as the Corporate Communications and Social Media Intern, the student will have the opportunity to acquire and further develop their communication skills, time management, attention to detail, adaptability, and customer service skills.

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimum education and/or hands-on experience necessary to perform each essential responsibility.
- Degree seeking student at an accredited college or university.
- Displays excellent written and oral communication skills.
- In-depth working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Hootsuite or HeyOrca.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Skills
The competencies listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform each essential function.
Technical Competencies
- Strong computer competency.
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
- Canva or other graphic design platform proficiency.
- Familiarity with Photoshop and web editing packages.

- Ability to handle customer service issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff.
- Ability to multitask.
- Solid organizational skills and detail oriented.
- Ability to pay attention to detail and meet strict deadlines.
Clearance: Clean crime and credit background check.
Location: Yorktown Systems Group, Inc. headquarters in Huntsville, Alabama.
