DepartmentProfile

The Real Estate Department at Cerritos College offers courses tocomplete the educational requirements for the Real EstateSalesperson's and Broker's licenses. Students can earn twodifferent certificates and an AA Degree in Real Estate. Allinstructors in the Real Estate Department are currently working inthe Real Estate field.

Job Duties

ALL FACULTY SHALL:
Maintain currency with current information, concepts, laws andideas in their disciplines and with best practices in teaching andlearning.
Check mailbox, voicemail, and e-mail regularly.
Complete the checkout form before leaving campus at the end of theacademic term.
Maintain student confidentiality as required by regulation andBoard Policy 5040 titled Student Records and DirectoryInformation.

ALL FACULTY WHO ARE ASSIGNED CLASSES SHALL:
Teach all assigned classes unless excused under provisions of BoardPolicy.
Teach all assigned classes for all scheduled minutes.
In cases of necessary absence from class, notify the InstructionalDean or designee, or if unavailable, the Office of Academic Affairsin advance and have plans prepared so that a substitute, ifassigned, can maintain continuity of course content.
Teach courses in accordance with the course outlines ofrecord.
Provide opportunities for students to be aware of theirprogress.
Submit a copy of the syllabus for each class to the DivisionOffice.
Keep accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, andacademic progress and submit them to appropriate offices by thepublished deadlines.
Submit end-of-session grades, including supporting documentation,and attendance reports by the published deadlines.
Submit required information about first-day, no-show students bythe published deadlines.
Submit textbook order information by the published deadlines. Ifthe textbook is electronic or includes an electronic course pack,these conditions must be met:

  • Tests and exams must be available to the student withoutcharge.
  • The text and course pack must be available to students withdisabilities.
  • The publisher must grant read-only access to designated collegestaff for purposes of evaluation of course materials.
  • The text must be downloadable or printable.
    If these four conditions are not met, the electronic textbookcannot be used.
    Meet all classes during the final examination period.
    Give final examinations at the scheduled time unless approval to dootherwise is granted by the Office of Academic Affairs or itsdesignee.
    Keep all corrected final examination papers for at least one yearfollowing the close of the semester or summer term.
    Maintain a safe learning environment in classrooms, laboratories,and other instructional spaces.
    Allow the instructional manager and/or Instructional Dean, uponrequest, to review any assignments given during the semester.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Any Bachelor's degree and two years of experience, OR any associatedegree and six years of experience; AND a current salesperson'sreal estate license, a broker's license, or an appraisallicense.

    Understanding of and sensitivity to meeting the needs of thediverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, genderidentity, sexual orientation, and ethnic background of the student,community, and employee population.

    PreferredQualifications

    Real Estate teaching experience, either at a Community College OR aprivate real estate school OR a Regional Occupational Program (ROP)for two or more years.

    Physicalrequirements may be met with or without reasonable accommodations.Requires ambulatory ability to move to various office andclassroom-type locations and to stand, bend, stoop, and reach tosetup equipment and provide instruction. Requires sufficient handeye coordination and dexterity to write on a board or type on acomputer. Requires sufficient visual acuity to read documents andmake presentations. Requires sufficient auditory ability to projectvoice to a group, hear questions and prompts, and carry on routineconversations. Requires the ability to lift, push, and pull objectsof medium weight (less than 30 lbs.) on an occasional basis.

    Conditionsof Employment
    Assignmentsare contingent upon sufficient funding and enrollment.
    Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes.
    Individual who is offered employment shall be required to obtainfingerprints for a criminal history clearance through the StateDepartment of Justice and remit the required fee for processing thefingerprints, produce an original social security card, and submitnegative TB test results (must be within the past four years orwithin the last 60 days if not previously employed in a schooldistrict in California) before employment.
    Faculty must be able to teach on-campus or remotely asassigned.

    Candidates must be able to provide proof ofCalifornia residency prior toemployment.

    Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing ofloyalty oath per Government Codes 3100-3109.
