CITY OF BOULDER2+ weeks agoAgencyJury Scam Alert! It must be a day that ends in Y because scammers are again using the real name of one of our sergeants to try and trick community members into giving them money. Folks, no legitimate law enforcement officer will call you and demand that you pay them to avoid having a warrant issued for your arrest, saying you missed jury duty. They will also not tell you to send them the money via Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo or gift cards. Because it’s also tax season, you might get scam calls saying they’re with the IRS and that “their records indicate” you have not paid taxes and a warrant will be issued if they don’t immediately pay them. Sometimes they’re aggressive and they don’t want you to get off the phone. Just hang up. If you think you’re being scammed, tell the caller you are going to call BPD Dispatch to speak with an on-duty officer to report it. Stay safe, Boulder.41Like
CITY OF BOULDER2+ weeks agoAgencyHit and Run Suspect Sought Despite the close calls seen in this video, amazingly no one was hurt in the hit and run crash that occurred early Saturday morning. Around 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 3, a dark colored SUV was traveling westbound on Arapahoe Avenue and pulled up to the intersection at 28th Street. The SUV then sat at the intersection through at least seven light cycles with multiple cars going around it. When the traffic light turned red, the SUV suddenly drove into the intersection, narrowing missing other vehicles before it drove into oncoming traffic and struck another SUV. Thankfully that driver and two passengers were not injured. The suspect continued driving westbound in the eastbound lanes up to Folsom Street and it is unknown where it went from there. Anyone who witnessed anything related to this incident or might have dash cam video is asked to contact Accident Report Specialist Frank Leyhe at LeyheF@bouldercolorado.gov or 720-305-7554.27Like
CITY OF BOULDER2+ weeks agoAgencyRecognize this suspect? Just after 12 p.m. on Monday, March 4, officers responded to a robbery at John Atencio 1048 Pearl Street. Witnesses reported that an unknown male wearing a surgical mask entered the store and may have implied that he had a weapon. He then stole several thousand dollars’ worth of jewelry from the business. The suspect is described as being a skinny white male about 5’5’ tall with short light brown hair and blue eyes who was last seen wearing a black hat, surgical mask, black hoody, blue jeans and a small black backpack with two shoulder straps. He can be seen in this surveillance image. A suspect photo can be seen here. Detectives believe he was watching the business for a period of time before the robbery. We do not believe this robbery is related to another jewelry store robbery last month. Anyone with any information about his identity or this crime is asked to contact Detective Byars at ByarsS@bouldercolorado.gov or 303-441-1970.23Like
CITY OF BOULDER2+ weeks agoAgencyBoulder Police Investigating Unusual Twist on Old Scam BOULDER, Colo. – Boulder Police detectives have taken several reports recently of scammers pretending to be with banking institutions to trick community members into giving them their login information. The scammers have successfully stolen more than $100,000 from multiple victims’ bank accounts using the victims’ own logins and passwords. But there’s an even scarier twist this time. The scammers are also telling people to put all of their debit and credit cards into their mailbox and then the scammers are coming to the victims’ homes and taking them. Based on surveillance video, the suspect(s) and suspects’ vehicles have varied, to also include rental cars. If you recognize or have any information about the suspects pictured below, please contact BPD detectives. Victims have also reported similar crimes to Denver Police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office as well as Lone Tree and Parker. Boulder Police detectives have taken five reports so far with victims reporting more than $100,000 stolen from different banks and credit unions. Detectives would like to remind community members of these safety tips: •Do not place your debit/credit cards or any personally identifiable information in your mailbox •Hang up on suspicious phone calls from people claiming to be with your banking or financial institution. If you have concerns, call the bank or credit union directly using the number on the back of your cards. •Do not forward your phone number if requested to do so by someone claiming to be with your financial institution (this is one of the ways they can bypass security setups) •Go to your local bank branch in person if possible if you receive suspicious calls about your debit/credit cards or account •Report suspicious calls/possible scams to both the police and your banking institution Detectives believe there could be additional victims and would like to speak with those individuals. Anyone with any information about these crimes or any surveillance video that could be related is asked to contact Detective Sharon Ramos at RamosS@bouldercolorado.gov or 303-441-3323 or Investigation Specialist Alex Graber at GraberA@bouldercolorado.gov or 303-441-4420 reference case 24-01310.37Like
